Renée Restivo is an award winning writer who divides her time between Sicily and New Jersey. Her essays and photographs have appeared in National Geographic Traveler magazine. Her first person piece on ancestral travel, A Hunger for Sicilian Cooking: Planting Roots on a Family Farm was part of a collaborative feature, titled, Going Home, which won the Bronze award from the 2013 North American Travel Journalists Association Awards Competition.
An expanded version of her essay “A Hunger for Family: Finding roots at the table,” was published as the chapter on Sicily, Italy in the book Journeys Home, National Geographic Books, 2015.
Her non-fiction has been published in Travelers’ Tales books, The Adventure of Food: True Stories of Eating Everything. She loves writing about Sicily, and has written about Acireale, Agrigento and Stromboli for the magazine.
